Schwerin Castle

The Schwerin Palace

The landmark of Schwerin is Schwerin Palace or, as Richard von Weizsäcker aptly puts it: "The most beautiful seat of the state parliament in Germany". Situated on a small island in Schwerin's inner lake, the magnificent residential and ceremonial rooms can be visited. An extraordinary tour is the palace tour "From the cellar to the dome". Here you not only see the usual rooms, but can also take a look behind the scenes of the state parliament. Via hidden spiral staircases you come up to the dome of the castle tower, where a wonderful view over the state capital with its seven lakes awaits you. The guided tours are offered from April to November on weekends and in December on Sundays. Important: A valid identity card is required for this tour.

The castle garden, which surrounds Schwerin Castle on three sides, is recommended for a walk. It is laid out in the style of an English landscape garden and also houses the castle grotto. From the hill you have a beautiful view over Lake Schwerin to the islands.

For tired legs, Schwerin's "White Fleet" is ready and waiting. At the main pier next to the castle, the excursion steamers take various routes across the inner and outer lake.

The "Weiße Flotte Schwerin" sets sail daily from March to October and from Wednesday to Sunday in November and December. Schwerin

The state capital Schwerin

The state capital Schwerin with its lake landscape has many facets that are worth exploring on holiday. But where do you start? The best place is in the city of Schwerin itself. The city centre is only 6 km away from the Best Western Seehotel Frankenhorst.

To get a first impression of Schwerin, you can take a city tour by bus or a more leisurely rickshaw ride. Through the old town, past the Pfaffenteich, cathedral, castle and other sights, you will see Schwerin's most beautiful places. With the red double-decker buses, you also have the option of getting off at various stops to see the city off the beaten track. Of course, you can continue the journey later.

Do you prefer to explore Schwerin yourself? Use the digital treasure hunt, geocaching, for that. Here you can easily discover the city on different routes with a mobile navigation device and also get to know hidden places. You can divide your time individually and even leave the route to visit a restaurant or go shopping.

The lakeland

The lakeland

The best way to explore Schwerin's lake landscape is by bicycle. From the Best Western Seehotel Frankenhorst there are various bike tours that promise a varied holiday in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Cycle along the inner or outer lake and take your swimsuit and picnic basket with you. Because along the shores you will not only pass through beautiful nature reserves. Meadows, small bays and several bathing establishments invite you to swim and relax. On Schwerin Lake you will find Zippendorf Beach, the largest sandy beach in the city. In addition to the cool water, you will find cosy restaurants and cafés along the beach promenade.

The small towns around Schwerin, such as Groß Trebbow with the Trebbower See lake, are also easy to reach by bike and worth a trip.

.

The Pfaffenteich

The Pfaffenteich

In the middle of the old town, the Pfaffenteich invites you to linger. The man-made lake is home to historic buildings such as Schwerin's Arsenal and many cafés. Events such as the Old Town Festival and the Dragon Boat Days take place regularly on the Linden Promenade. You don't want to walk around the whole lake on your holiday? Then simply use the "Petermännchen" ferry to get to the other shore.

Cultural

Cultural

E Schwerin also offers cultural events in the evening. Whether opera, drama or musical theatre. The Mecklenburg State Theatre has something for every taste.

Not to be missed are the annual castle festivals in summer. Here, opera meets the most beautiful castle scenery. What began as an insider tip for opera lovers has now established itself as an international festival. So reserve tickets early to give a beautiful day in Schwerin a unique ending.
